The Powers That Be

The Powers That Be
A Tribute to Mr Wong Siew Hoong
23rd Headmaster of Raffles Institution

'Twas in ninety-eight,
A move The Powers doth made,
That brought Mr Wong Siew Hoong
To RI - none too soon.

	The Powers That Be dictate,
The courses that RI would take.

Back to his Alma Mater did he come,
To serve his school with all his charm.
The premier school in Singapore,
Where leader, pioneers and thinkers grow tall.

The Powers That Be doth sow,
Seeds in a fertile field to grow.

The work was hard, the challenge great.
A lesser man would quickly fade.
Our Headmaster shone throughout the gloom.
Problems were nipped before they bloomed.

The Powers That Be were satisfied,
As school and Man grew side by side.

He led the school with all his might.
He led Raffles to greater heights.
Year after year did RI grow;
Award after award - the endless flow.

The Powers That Be did smile,
Another good man had grown a mile.

His five years were up,
He begged to stay.
To lead RP in its first year of birth,
And the S.E.A., for all it's worth.

The Powers That Be had stayed His hand,
Three more years for the good man.

Six long years have come and gone,
The RP chorus became a song.
The Director of Schools was up for grabs,
HM's promotion, just another step.

	The HeadMaster will now be
Part of The Powers That Be.
